Tips When Moving House

Moving House

Top Tips To Consider

House moving takes time, and effort, and can be overwhelmingly stressful. First-time movers often have a hard time deciding where to start packing and how to organize the tasks. It’s normal to feel overwhelmed – after all, moving homes is a huge milestone. If you have a moving day coming soon and you don’t really know where to start and how to start packing and moving your things, here are some moving tips you’ll find useful.

1. Create a house moving checklist

First things first. Create a moving checklist with a timetable included. A timeline will help keep your moving schedule on track. Each time frame is different depending on how much moving time is given. Some take a week while others take two weeks.

Make a list of all the things that you need to pack so you’ll have a clear and detailed inventory that will keep track of all your belongings. Having this list in hand will help avoid misplacing or losing items during the move.

2. Declutter

Before you begin packing, make sure to declutter. You don’t really want to pack things that you no longer need so make sure that you segregate them or put them in a different box labeled as “keep, throw, sell, or donate”. Decluttering before packing will save you a lot of time in sorting things out and putting them in the right box.

3. Start organizing room to room

Once you’re done decluttering, it’s time to organize stuff room by room. Pick a day or time to organize the bedroom, then the kitchen, followed by the living room, and so on. A task might seem difficult when it is not properly planned. Doing this strategy will make it look easier to accomplish even if you have so many rooms to organize and items to pack.

4. Invest in quality boxes

Buy quality moving boxes to ensure the safety of your belongings. As a general guideline, a package shouldn’t weigh more than 20 kilograms. Make sure you can lift the boxes even if you’ve hired movers since you might need to transport them yourself from one room to another.

5. Use the right size boxes

Put heavier items, like books, in smaller boxes and lighter ones in bigger boxes. This makes it easy for movers to organize and put boxes onto the moving truck. To prevent breaking breakables, make sure to place heavier goods towards the bottom of the container and lighter ones at the top.

6. Don’t overpack

One common mistake that many people make when moving houses is trying to fit many objects in one box. This can damage the box and make it difficult to carry. Avoid overpacking so you don’t break any valuables inside the box and to not damage the box. It can be a huge hassle if the box rips apart while you’re carrying it because you stuffed it with too many items.

7. Label each box depending on what room it belongs to

We can’t stress how important it is to label boxes. You can label each box according to the room or owner. This technique will make it easier for you to separate the boxes once you arrive in the new house.

8. Carefully packed fragile items

Pack any delicate objects carefully and with lots of crumpled-up paper and cushioning. Never put these things in packaging without any additional padding. To avoid future worry, take the effort to pack these goods properly.

9. Move the heavy and bulky items first

When moving out of the old house, carry the heavy items first such as furniture items, appliances, chairs, tables, sofas, and the likes. These are the items that you can straightaway arrange in your new home whereas smaller stuff like decorations, accessories, clothes, and others can be unpacked later on once the essential items and furniture pieces are placed.

10. Decide whether it’s best to hire a house moving company

Hiring professional movers could make sense if you don’t have anyone to help you move or the moving process is just so tiring and stressful for you. A trusted home moving company will help you throughout the process of moving. From the packing, delivering, to assembling furniture – depending on the custom-service you requested.
