Ten-year-old e-tailer FortyTwo touts itself as the biggest home furnishing e-commerce site in Singapore, boasting more than 20,000 items in its inventory. We spotted on-trend pieces like a copper-toned side table going for $69.90 (down from $99); an adorable two-seater sofa with a multicoloured button-back design for $319 (down from $599); and a geometric print carpet for $159.90 (previously $399). There’s free delivery for purchases above $300, as well as a 100-day free returns policy.
Local stalwart Star Living has an umbrella of seven brands that are designed and produced in-house. Each has its own identity, with our favourites being the design driven Lucano and JotterGoods. The former offers a luxe-for-less look, with items like the plush Napoleon Dining Chair (was $159; now $139) and glamorous Pharaoh End Table (was $590; now $259) getting our vote. The latter, meanwhile, has an honest, handcrafted vibe. Star buys – pardon the pun – include the solid wood Jotter Desk (was $890; now $750) and the Vessel TV Sideboard (was $1,090; now $790). Purchases above $500 gets you free delivery; otherwise, a $50 charge applies.
Comfort is best known for its designer-inspired furniture, but it’s hard to resist their low, low prices. For fans of the Industrial aesthetic, now’s a good time to scour the site for bargains – many Industrial-style pieces are on promo. The Pipe Dining Table, which has a solid wood top and galvanised iron pipe legs, is now $980, down from $1,165. Match this with stackable Dojo Sidechairs, which are going for $99 each (usual: $133.75). Free delivery for purchases above $535. If not, a fee of is $32.10 is applicable.
We love HipVan for their range of design-led, accessibly-priced furnishings. And with their ongoing Furniture Clearance sale, prices seem almost too good to be true. Where else can you find a sleek, masculine King-sized bed with faux leather headboard for $299 (usual price: $799)? Or a six-seater dining table in oak veneer that’s so perfect for Japanese or Scandi-Modern interiors, also for $299 (regular price: $499)? Then there’s an uber-stylish three-seater sofa going for $799 instead of $1,499. Orders exceeding $200 are entitled to free delivery and assembly, plus there’s a 100-day return policy.
Mid-Range
Castlery is another favourite of ours when it comes to contemporary and Mid-20th Century-style home furnishings. And now, on top of their mid-year sale, they’re offering a GSS special instant rebate, where shoppers can save an additional $100 to $500 with a minimum spend. Check out this vintage-style two-seater sofa that’s going for $999. Or this charming TV console in retro pastel shades at just $579 (usual: $639). How about this Queen-sized bed in Tiffany blue? It’s possibly every girl’s dream bed, at just $719 (usual: $799). Orders above $300 receive free delivery.
For design savvy homeowners who also happen to be eco-conscious, Ethnicraft is your best bet. The pieces are sleek and modern with clean lines, and the wood used – mainly teak and oak – are harvested from sustainable sources. We’re particularly taken by their range of extendable dining tables (so handy for gatherings) like Slice, $2,255. Their storage units, such as the Mozaic rack, $1,915, and Horizon shoe rack, $1,045, are worth the investment.
Nook & Cranny is possibly the only local e-tailer to offer a selection of Industrial-style furnishings as well as – intriguingly – Chinese antiques. (If your interior is eclectic enough, you could pair the two styles to create a very interesting mix!) Chinese wedding cabinets make great storage pieces, and this version in grey elmwood, $1,009, is chic to boot. Another versatile offering is this solid fir sideboard, $1,009, that would pair well in any setting. Purchases above $200 receive free delivery, while a $30 fee is levied otherwise.
High-End
Local e-tailer Inhabitant’s highly curated selection of furniture, lighting and accessories features designers from all over the world, including homegrown ones like JotterGoods, Munkii, Kuru, Desinere and Journey East. Naturally, the pieces are all stylishly on-trend, such as this lounge chair in ‘Millennial pink’, $3,130, or this coffee/side table with a marble top, $920. Fashion-forward homeowners can pick up a desk lamp designed in collaboration with Paul Smith, $440. A spend above $2,000 gets you free delivery.
For high-wattage glamour – think plush sofas, mirrored drawers and animal print upholstery – look no further than local fine living purveyors Finn Avenue. Their ongoing sale features luxe items such as a velvet three-seater sofa with button back detailing now $2,200 (usual: $4,280). Then there’s a zebra-print Louis XVI-style chair going for $980 (less 50%). Or how about accent pieces like this mirror with Greek key motif now $490 instead of $1,010. A spend of only $300 is required for free delivery.
Etch & Bolts offers an eclectic mix of products. But what we like most is their range of furnishings with a handcrafted feel. Their American Walnut collection, for example, features dining tables with tops hewn from slabs of solid black walnut. The Henk Table is now on sale for $1,919 (down from $2,599). The other aspect of the company we appreciate is the ability to customise your sofas, from size and configuration to fabric choice and seating comfort level.
